AP Language Test Prep Books
The AP English Language and Composition exam is comprised of multiple choice and free response questions that will take 3 Hours and 15 Minutes this year. You will be tested on your reading comprehension of rhetorically and topically diverse texts. You will also perform rhetorical analysis of individual texts in isolation and provide a synthesis of information from multiple texts. In the AP English Language and Composition test you will also provide a written argumentation. Within the first section of the test you will have 45% of your AP English Language and Composition exam score determined, the second section is all free response and will make up 55% of your exam score.

Develop your critical thinking skills – a lot of the AP Lang course work is designed to test your ability to have critical thinking skills. Being able to look beyond the words and understand the bigger picture and the connection between concepts is important. Also understanding the context of the material in relation to the style, time period, subject matter, and other language features is important.
Make sure to read questions carefully – The AP Lang test has several multiple-choice questions and they are designed to test your reasoning heavily – in fact that may have options such was all of the above or none of the above. You will need to understand the content in order to get a good score on the AP Language exam. Use deduction to remove the answers that you know are not relevant or clear outliers.
Complete prep work that was assigned during the summer – When you decide that you’re going to take the AP English Language and Composition test, you are assigned summer work from your AP English courses to read and perform over the summer time. Read those books! The teachers will expect you to have read those books and it will help you spread the heavy reading that AP Lang exam prep requires.

The Language of Composition: Reading, Writing, Rhetoric. 2nd Edition textbook is a very comprehensive review for the exam, in fact it probably goes over the top in topics covered. The format of questions on the test match the ones in this book and that makes this book a great recommendation.
Best AP Lang Review Book
This test is difficult and we recommend using a review book before you take the AP Lang exam – this is a great book for reviewing before the test. The Barron’s AP English Language and Composition review textbook contains several full-length exams that will prepare you for the test plus it includes great advice on answering several types of multiple choice questions. As you begin try taking the diagnostic test, which will help you determine the subject areas that you need more focus on before the test.
